The images of the photographs on our bathroom wall are relected in the mirror, but the photo did not turn out the way I hoped it would. After countless attempts taking this shot, I've decided to settle on this one in order to finish catching up for my own end of the month deadline.

The surfers were getting lots of air in their jumps but I spent more time watching than clicking and missed that.

#221 Outdoor SeatingNot your traditional outdoor seat, but a popular one here nonetheless as I often see folks sitting there enjoying the view and/or meditating. In the background is another fabulous place to go walking--->along the breakwater at Ogden Point...but be sure to bring a sweater with you as it is definitely windy/chilly out there most days! The spot beside the sitting man is where you will find the steps leading down to the beach from my previous post.

#68 CrossWhile this won't be the definition that many of you use for this theme, it is the one I have chosen. While out walking I noticed someone on the beach playing a guitar (another 'squint to find' pic)...I couldn't hear the music from where I was above, so I decided to venture down to the beach to get to a closer spot where I could hear and enjoy it. However, I was unable to cross to the portion of the beach where the musician was at...well, not without getting really wet or slapped up against the rock wall. I decided it was not meant to be and continued on my way.

#191 MuseumsThe Maritime Museum of British Columbia is situated in Bastion Square and has been housed in the historic 1889 Provincial Law Courts building (where Chief Justice Matthew Begbie aka The Hanging Judge presided) since 1964. It is said to be the most haunted place in Victoria due to the fact it was built on the site of the city's first gallows and that many of the hanged men are buried beneath the foundation. However, I cannot confirm nor deny that claim. Once inside you will find a variety of themed galleries: Early Exploration, Captain Cook and Royal Navy to name a few. It is also home to the oldest operating elevator in Canada. If history, boats or ghosts are not your thing, you can always enjoy the beautiful woodwork, vaulted ceilings and elegant cornices as you wander through the past in this must-see museum.

The rest of the building! I cannot confirm the details regarding this property, but I have been told that the project was stopped due to financial issues. It has been this way for quite a while so we look forward to the day when this heritage building is restored to its former glory.

#315 SymbolsThese symbols can be viewed at the Centennial Square Fountain, which was a gift to Victoria from Esquimalt (a bordering municipality) to commemorate the centenary of progress (1862-1962). This area is undergoing another change--->1.65 million dollars is being spent constructing Victoria's Spirit Square (to make the area more inviting to the public and to increase opportunities for celebrations and events). It is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. Although I'm sure it will be a welcomed improved space in the city, personally, I would have used the money differently. #268 SchoolRemember my #9 Christ Church Cathedral post? Well, this is the other side of that building...Christ Church Cathedral School. The gymnasium-church hall was remodelled to provide a home for the Cathedral School. It is the only Anglican school in Canada that is attached to a Cathedral. I know very little about this place--I had to look all this stuff up! I walk by it all the time and do know that is a magnificent-looking building (built 1926) where children in uniform enter each morning. I've also learned from their website that they have to wear their uniforms to and from school, not just during school hours.

#243 Public ArtThe "Commerce Canoe" created by Illarian Gallant is situated in Bastion Square...Although I appreciate all types of art, this particular piece seems out of place in this area in my humble opinion. This nine-metre-long aluminum canoe hanging among 11-metre-high steel green reeds capped with red fibreglass seedpods was erected last year and cost $90 000.

#174 Local Landmarks

This Mungo Martin totem was dedicated on July 2, 1956 in Victoria's Beacon Hill Park. At 38.8 metres (127 feet) tall, it is the largest freestanding totem pole in the world. Due to weather elements and natural decay of the cedar pole, it was taken down in November of 2000, preserved, restored, and proudly resurrected again a year later. The restoration was based on the original 1956 effort, where 10 000 50-cent shares in the pole were sold. This time, approx. $185 000 was raised from $5 shares and other donations to fund the 'To Rise Again' project.
